Agent Orange

The Holding Company – 1st Floor 5046 Newport Ave, San Diego, CA, United States

Sat Mar 8th 2025 | Doors 7:30pm | Tickets $20-25

The Original Southern California Punk/Surf Power Trio, Agent Orange, is one of only a handful of bands who have been continually active since the earliest days of the West Coast Punk Scene.

A small circle of musical rebels who came together to form a movement, they took their place front and center to experience and participate in the explosion of now legendary underground music that was created during the golden era of American Punk Rock.

Being the first to combine the melodic California surf guitar sound with the frantic energy of punk, Agent Orange invented the formula that would come to define the Orange County punk sound. Highly influential to many of the bands who have followed in their path, Agent Orange have always stayed one step ahead.

Their strong connection to the Action Sports world has resulted in their music providing the soundtrack to numerous major motion pictures, video games, surf and skate films, television, and live sports events.

The last of the true independents, Agent Orange have managed to stay true to their roots, while always moving forward.

Powered by a loyal following built up through years of explosive live performances all over the world, Agent Orange continue to deliver their Fullblown-Supercharged-Punk-Surf Sound on an international basis, with a never ending schedule of tours in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, Australia, and Japan.

C’mon down front and expose yourself to Agent Orange.

Keller Williams

The Holding Company – 1st Floor 5046 Newport Ave, San Diego, CA, United States

Fri Apr 4th 2025 | Doors 7:30pm | Tickets $30-37

Virginian Keller Williams released his first album in 1994, FREEK, and has since given each of his albums a single-syllable title: BUZZ, SPUN, BREATHE, LOOP, LAUGH, HOME, DANCE, STAGE, GRASS, DREAM, TWELVE, LIVE, ODD, THIEF, KIDS, BASS, PICK, FUNK, VAPE, SYNC, RAW, SANS, ADD, SPEED, CELL, DROLL, and now DEER. Each title serves as a concise summation of the concept guiding each project.

Keller’s albums reflect his pursuit to create music that sounds like nothing else. Un-beholden to conventionalism, he seamlessly crosses genre boundaries. The end product is music that encompasses rock, jazz, funk, and bluegrass, always keeping the audience on their feet. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike.

For most of his career, he has performed solo. His stage shows are rooted around Keller singing his compositions and choice cover songs, while accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, bass, guitar synthesizer, and drum samples—a technique called live phrase sampling or “looping.” The end result often leans toward a hybrid of alternative folk and groovy electronica, a genre Keller jokingly calls “acoustic dance music” or “ADM.”

Keller's constant evolution has led to numerous band projects as well, including Keller & The Keels, Grateful Grass, KWahtro, Keller and the Travelin’ McCourys, Grateful Gospel, More Than A Little, and most recently, DeadPettyKellerGrass. You can even catch him from time to time going back to his troubadour roots with his “Shut the Folk Up and Listen” series.

Keller can be found playing clubs and festivals with these projects and his tried-and-true solo looping show, always changing things up and keeping moving.

Leftöver Crack

The Holding Company – 1st Floor 5046 Newport Ave, San Diego, CA, United States

Wed Apr 30th 2025 | Doors 7:30pm | Tickets $30-40

Leftöver Crack is an American punk rock band formed in 1998 following the breakup of its predecessor Choking Victim, sharing band members Stza and Alec Baillie (also bandmates in their first band that they formed together in high school: No Commercial Value) until Alec’s tragic death in November of 2021.

The band is currently recording new music and will be reissuing all of their previous albums, with the exception of their debut LP “Medicore Generica” (Hellcat/Epitaph). Manufactured and distributed by MVD in North America, Leftöver Crack’s own Recidivist Bible Camp record label released its first song and video for the track “Shooticide” from the upcoming Leftöver Crack recording: “Abandon the Precincts” aka Volume 4 on RBC records and psalms.

Song: Shootacide

Here’s a link to “the meaning” of the song “Shooticide”

The album also features two songs recorded during the “Constructs of the State” LP sessions: “The Dead,” co-written by Stu Daly of Dublin, Ireland’s legendary “Chewing on Tinfoil” aka “Chewie” and Stza. It features vocals by the late Erik Peterson of Philadelphia’s beloved Mischief Brew. The second track, “Manger Danger,” was co-written by Stza with the Huntington Beach-based team of Brad Logan and Donny Morris, who also played together in the hardcore band “Rats in the Wall.”

Leftöver Crack’s current touring line-up consists of Scott Sturgeon aka Stza Crack (vocals, guitar, synth), Tibbie X (vocals, synth), Marc Cody (bass, vocals), Skunk Chelovec (guitar, vocals), Jon Yi (guitar, vocals), and Ethan Nickles (drums). Leftöver Crack has both defied genre pigeon-holing while creating the “Crack Rock Steady” music genre (along with LöC predecessors Choking Victim & No Commercial Value), which mixes anarcho-punk with ska, hardcore, garage, crust-punk, and the gloriously unholy metal trifecta of thrash, doom, and death.

All of this and many other styles are combined with grating crust-punk vocals delivered with a snotty, snarling attitude by a multitude of genders, and an endless list of vocal and musical inspirations. These influences include vastly contrasting forms of top 40 pop from the last 50 years, to 90’s hip-hop, early 80’s goth, late 80’s “alternative,” indie rock, and most styles in between and outside of every box. The lyrical content is of a radical leftist nature, opposing religion, capitalism, authority, and prejudice.

Members of Leftöver Crack’s band and crew reside at C-Squat near Tompkins Square Park. Band members have had a well-known history of back-and-forth conflict with the NYPD, which precedes the band's formation. The name "Leftöver Crack" is explained by Stza as being "an oxymoron," based on the idea that crack cocaine addicts are known for vigorous use and are unlikely to have any "leftover(s)."

Leftöver Crack’s band members and collaborators have been in a plethora of other bands, both punk and otherwise, with recognizable names such as: Suicidal Tendencies, The Coup, Dead Milkmen, Nausea, The Beastie Boys, Reagan Youth, Dwarves, Choking Victim, Skarp, F-Minus, D.R.I., Bouncing Souls, Union 13, Dead Kennedy’s, Crass, NOFX, Riverboat Gamblers, Big Black, GASH, Street-Sweeper Social Club, Anti-Flag, The Adolescents, Star Fucking Hipsters, DayCare Swindlers, the Distillers, Phobia, The Hold Steady, Lard, X-Possibles, Operation Ivy, INDK, Band of Horses, informal Society, MDC, No Commercial Value, Jello Biafra, John Cougar Mellencamp, World/Inferno Friendship Society, The Infirmities, Classics of Love, Destruction Made Simple, Scoflaws, Total Chaos, Henry Thugsworth & the Severinator, Hepcat, Lagwagon, and many many others...

Mickey Avalon

The Holding Company – 1st Floor 5046 Newport Ave, San Diego, CA, United States

Sat May 3rd 2024 | Doors 7:30pm | Tickets: $27 Advance, $35 Day of Show

Mickey Avalon’s life story plays out like an episode of VH1's ‘Behind The Music,” marred by personal tragedy, triumphs and immense pain. Avalon’s back-story begins on the streets of Hollywood, California. Raised by his heroin-addicted father, he began selling pot at a young age, a trade he acquired from his mother. In an attempt to clean up his act, Mickey converted to Orthodox Judaism in his late teens, an effort that didn’t last due to constant family tragedy, such as his father’s death in a tragic drunk driving accident.

By his early 20s, Mickey had married, had a daughter, and moved out of California, relocating to Portland, Oregon. The serine surroundings of the Pacific Northwest couldn’t hide Mickey from his past for long, as his drug addled Hollywood lifestyle caught up with him in the form of an uncontrollable heroin addiction. As his life neared rock bottom, Mickey found himself broke, divorced, and turning to prostitution, just to support his smack habit. With a desire to once again get his life back on track, Avalon moved in with his sister, and the pair set out on the road to recovery. Tragedy struck again when his sister relapsed, and died from a heroin overdose.

After the deaths of both his father and sister, Mickey decided that he wanted more out of life, moved back to Los Angeles, and chose to make one final attempt to clean up his act. Shortly after his return, Mickey was befriended by ex-MTV VJ Simon Rex (aka Dirt Nasty), who encouraged Avalon to pursue his passion of hip-hop and even collaborated with him on some tracks. At the time, Avalon was staying in a sober living facility and had a strict curfew, so Dirt Nasty began passing out Mickey’s demo at Hollywood clubs, which helped Mickey develop a following among fans of the Los Angeles nightclub scene.

As Mickey’s popularity grew, he began to sell out clubs throughout California with his legendary live show. Soon after Interscope Records took notice of the guerilla promotions tactics and signed Avalon to the label in 2005. Through Interscope, Avalon released his now classic self-titled debut album, which showcased his unique rhyming style and indulgent lyrics. Inspired by his experiences on the streets with drugs and prostitution, the raw honesty of his songs immediately resonated with audiences. Fan favorites “Jane Fonda,” “Mr. Right” and “My Dick” quickly spread across the internet and mainstream radio, turning Mickey Avalon into a household name. Avalon quickly took to the road and was performing sold-out shows alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Travis Barker and DJ AM, Snoop Dogg, Stephen Marley and Slightly Stoopid.

Mickey’s contagious demeanor and unique writing style has made him a hot commodity in the music industry as hip-hop artist Young Jeezy and producer Jermaine Dupri jumped at the chance to collaborate with him for a Boost Mobile commercial. Avalon then joined forces with rock acts the Happy Mondays, and Unwritten Law, with whom he co-wrote the radio hit “Shoulda Known Better”. His music has been featured in countless movies and television series including the HBO’s series Hung, the animated series American Dad, the Duke Nukem Forever video game, Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay and most recently in the trailers for the Cameron Diaz film “Bad Teacher.”

“John would have wanted the record to come out. The music was what was important to him, and he would have wanted us to keep going.” — The Effigies drummer Steve Economou

The new album from The Effigies begins, unfortunately, with a moment of tragedy. Just as the long-running and influential Chicago punk band was finishing its fifth album Burned in late 2023, singer John Kezdy was killed in a biking accident.

Reaction from the music world was swift. “John Kezdy was a hero of mine,” Steve Albini wrote on social media immediately following Kezdy’s passing. “Effigies were the first great band from Chicago’s scene, his stern, declamatory style influenced a generation and he helped me in material ways. Not overstating to say that without John and the Effigies, I would never have made any records.”

While The Effigies were never the biggest band in the punk world, they were an important one. The group — which featured rotating guitarists but primarily consisted of Kezdy, bassist Paul Zamost, and drummer Steve Economou — formed in 1980 and released four full-length records and a few EPs over the course of their on-and-off history, all while touring with the likes of Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, Naked Raygun (which featured John’s brother Pierre), and even pre-fame Green Day.

Most importantly, the band helped punk thrive in their hometown of Chicago in the early ‘80s, where the scene was smaller and more insular. “That early Chicago scene — there was a collective consciousness there,” says Economou. “It was Steve Albini, Naked Raygun, Strike Under. We all had our roles — sound, promotions, t-shirts. It was a collective scene from the beginning. We held it together until the next generation of bands hit and the crowds got bigger.” (During this time, the band also founded and released their music on Ruthless Records, an influential punk label that also featured albums by Naked Raygun, Big Black, and Urge Overkill, among others.)

A smaller local scene may have kept The Effigies from reaching the heights of some of their peers. But the band’s unwillingness to fit into a predetermined genre or musical category also played a role. “There was no scene for us,” admits Economou. “But what was great was how diverse the Chicago scene was. We were all very different from each other.” In a 2015 interview, Kezdy — eschewing the term “hardcore” — noted that “we tried to write real songs but they had the punk energy. I don’t mind if people call us a punk band because that’s what we’ve always been. I don’t mean to be presumptuous, but the lineage of The Effigies has always been more along the lines of the Sex Pistols, the Stranglers, the Ruts and that kind of stuff.”

That said, you’ll notice a consistency from The Effigies through every release, including the new album. Burned, the band’s first record since 2007’s Reside, was produced and recorded by Andy Gerber (a longtime friend of the band who also plays guitars on parts of the album) and mixed by J. Robbins. It’s aggressive but melodic, with Kezdy’s wry, political, and often personal commentary at the forefront.

“It’s John’s best work,” says Zamost. “And I think it’s consistent with our other music because the music’s always been written around me and Steve, the rhythm section. It defined our sound.”

Along with a new record comes a 40th anniversary re-release of the band’s classic album For Ever Grounded, which has been remixed and remastered. “We’d record the early records very quickly, sneaking into studios and pretty much laying ‘em down over a weekend,” says Economou.

Green Jelly AKA Green Jello

Fri Jul 11th 2025 | Doors 7:30pm | Tickets $12-20

Green Jellÿ (/gri?n 'd??lo?/, green Jell-O) is an American comedy rock band formed in 1981. Originally named Green Jellö, the band changed its name due to legal pressure from Kraft Foods Inc., the owners of the Jell-O brand, who claimed that it was an infringement of their trademark.

Known for sophomoric humor, theatrical performances, and intentionally crude musicianship, Green Jellÿ has had hundreds of members during its existence, with vocalist Bill Manspeaker the only consistent member throughout. Notable past members include Danny Carey and Maynard James Keenan, who were both in Green Jellÿ during the early 1990s and went on to form Tool.

To date, the band has released five studio albums: Triple Live Möther Gööse at Budokan (1989), Cereal Killer Soundtrack (1993), 333 (1994), Musick to Insult Your Intelligence By (2009), and Garbage Band Kids (2021). They are best known for their 1992 hit "Three Little Pigs", which was adapted from the fairy tale.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Karate
Audio Karate comprised childhood friends from Rosemead, CA: vocalist/guitarist Art Barrios, bassist/vocalist Justo Gonzalez, drummer Gabriel Camacho and guitarist Jason Camacho (those last two being cousins). They all bonded over a shared love of both '80s skatepunk and '70s metal, and in May 2002, released their debut of furiously catchy SoCal pop-punk via Kung Fu Records titled Space Camp. Tour dates with acts like the ataris, tsunami bomb and the vandals followed, as did a stretch on the 2004 Warped Tour. Audio Karate's Warped appearance was well timed, coinciding with the June release of their matured (and very well-received) follow-up, Lady Melody, which was produced by Bill Stevenson (descendants all, etc). More touring was completed before the guys announced at year's end that they would be taking a "vacation" for an undisclosed amount of time. Audio Karate resurfaced in the spring of 2006 with the notice that they were working on a new album, in addition to writing the score and soundtrack -- music much different than their past efforts -- for the Spanish language independent film, Maquillaje. In the meantime, Jason Camacho had also opened his own studio Lady Melody, named after the band's 2004 album.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Rose_(band)
An emo-influenced pop-punk band from New Jersey, Tokyo Rose was formed in 2001, while singer and guitarist Ryan Dominguez and bassist Chris Poulsen were both students at Rutgers University. Though both were playing with other bands, the two shared similar musical interests and decided to launch a band of their own. Tokyo Rose played local shows when the members' busy schedules permitted and they booked tours to coincide with vacations and between-term breaks. Tokyo Rose also recorded a self-released EP, Chasing Fireflies, which became the band's calling card after Dominguez and Poulsen graduated and made the band a full-time priority.

In 2003, during a tour of California, the band signed a deal with the independent label Sidecho Records, who released the group's first full-length album, Reinventing a Lost Art, in July 2003. Extensive touring followed, including playing the 2003 CMJ Festival, the 2004 South by Southwest Music Conference, and the 2004 Warped Tour. In 2005, after returning home from a tour of Japan, Tokyo Rose began work on their second album, New American Saint, which was released in October 2005. Their second album featured Fred Mascherino of Taking Back Sunday on the track "A Reason to Come Home Again" and was released on October 4, 2005 and landed them tours with Bayside, Taking Back Sunday, as well as performing on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour.

Inspiration comes full circle. Sixteen years since Watashi Wa’s last release, a confluence of creativity, circumstances, and trust revitalizes, re-energizes, and reignites the acclaimed California band founded and fronted by singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer Seth Roberts. Joined by Jeremy Wells , Miles Castenholtz , Teddy Ramirez , Roger Tompkins , and Tyler Tedeschi , Seth has crafted the right music for the right time on the band’s long-awaited fourth full-length offering, People Like People .
“It was the right time,” he affirms.“ I felt called to do Watashi Wa again—as if this was what I was supposed to be doing. In the past, it was often difficult. Now, the songs came out easily. When I was writing, it just was Watashi Wa. These days, my perspective on music is similar to the freedom I had when I was younger and first started the band. Things in the world pushed me towards it even more. I thought, ‘Why not just do Watashi Wa again?’”
Why not indeed…
